TOP THINGS TO DO IN AKIHABARA • TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The station area of Akasaka is full of offices and during the day it is busy with salarimen running about, but in the evening it relaxes and becomes a nightlife area of narrow streets with pubs and restaurants. It's not really a tourist area, but there are some things to check out in the nearby vicinity.

HIE SHRINE

This tranquil shrine is just a few minute walk from Sanno-Tamieke station. Maybe not the most spectacular shrine experience, but worth a look if in the area.

NATIONAL DIET BUILDING

A 15 minute walk up the hill or short taxi ride East on Roppongi-dori avenue brings one to the Japanese Parliament building, the 'Diet'. The tall inca pyramid has winged chambers where leaders meet and discuss policy.

NATIONAL DIET LIBRARY

A modern well run library that is very good for Japan study scholars and Japanese speakers. Registration card is necessary and members must be at least age 18.

SUNTORY MUSEUM OF ART

The Suntory Museum of Art is located a few minute walk from Akasaka toward Roppongi. It is behind the Tokyo Mid-Town complex with displays of ceramics, screens and other Japanese art - and changing exhibits.

THE NATIONAL THEATER

East and North from Akasaka Mitsuke station is Japan's National Theater - with regular plays and Kabuki shows.
