TOP THINGS TO DO IN AKIHABARA • TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Akihabara has been Tokyo’s electronic center since the 1950’s. It's a mash of crusty old electronic stores and shiny new shopping areas, sprinkled with game centers and anime show places. For non-anime enthusiasts or non-electronic geeks, it might not be the most interesting place, so probably best to come on Sundays, when cosplay groups hang out in costume as their favorite anime or manga character.

MAID CAFES

In Maid Cafes waitresses wear Maid costumes. Nothing tawdry goes on, just a drink with specially dressed service. Some places are stern and formal, while staff at others might perform short shows.
