Kichijoji is a trendy suburban shopping neighborhood with a pleasant area of shops and restaurants. Nearby is Inokashira Park, several notable temples, and about a 20 minute walk away is the Ghibli Museum.

Inokashira Koen is a surprisingly good sized park of winding lanes and benches that over look a large lake. On weekends there is often a small market. A popular spot during cherry blossom season.

GHIBLI MUSEUM
The world famous Ghibli Museum is about a 20 minute walk further west of Kichijoji station. The museum requires tickets to be bought in advance.

INOKASHIRA ZOO
Offering a fine collection of animals from around the world, the Inokashira Zoo is definitely worth a look. The zoo has two sections - one for land animals and an aquatic section that is down in Inokashira Park.

HARMONICA YOKOCHO
Yokocho is the Japanese term for an area of narrow alley shops and pubs. The Harmonica Yokocho isn't so big, but has a good vibe and a nice number of places.

PADDLE and SWAN BOATS
Directly south of Kichijoji station, on the opposite bank of the Inokashira lake, Swan and Paddle boats can be rented. Weekends it can get jam-packed.

GESO-JI TEMPLE
If you are in the area, the Geso-ji Buddhist temple is worth a look. There is a small cemetary and a temple where prayers can be made.

BENZAITEN SHRINE
The ancient and beautiful Benzaiten Temple is down on Inokashira lake. The shrine is dedicated to the goddess of water, and legend has it that couples passing will be cursed by the jealous goddess.

Kichijoji offers a great shopping experience, with a whole variety of shops, malls, and department stores. Whether clothing or home items or electronics, there is a shop for just about anything.
