SUNTORY MUSEUM OF ART

A short walk from Roppongi station, in the Tokyo Mid-Town complex, this modern private museum has a fine collection of art and design - thoughtfully presented.

OPEN: 10am-6pm, until 8pm Fri/Sat, Closed Tues and Jan 1.
FEE: Depends on Exhibition, but usually around 1000 yen

MORI MUSEUM

This modern space on the top floors of the Mori Tower in the Roppongi Hills office complex has continually changing shows and exhibitions throughout the year - check their website for details.

OPEN: 10am - 10pm, Tues until 5pm.

TOKYO METROPOLITAN ART MUSEUM

Part of the cluster of museums in Ueno, this large building has continually changing shows and exhibitions and galleries.

OPEN: 9:30am - 5:30pm, Closed First and third Mon of the month and New Year break.
FEE: Depends on the exhibiton, though sometimes free

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WESTERN ART

This art museum near Ueno Station has a great collection of European and Western art in a well designed and large space. While there are not so many famous paintings, there are pieces by Monet and Picasso, among others.

OPEN: 9:30am - 5pm, 8pm Fri and Sat, Closed Mondays and New Year break.
FEE: 430 yen / 2nd and 4th Sat of month free

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MODERN ART

Close to the Imperial Palace, this fine museum has a permanent collection of Japanese art work from the Meiji Period on, as well as changing exhibits.

OPEN: 10am - 5pm, closed Mon and over New Year break.
FEE: 430 yen, students 500 yen.
LOCATION: Close to Takebashi Station on the Tozai line.
